Protocol & People™ is a multiplatform cancer and clinical trial literacy initiative that explains cancer and clinical trials in plain language across print, web, video and live sessions. Its core product, Cards on the Table, is a library of more than 150 questions and answers covering the path from a cancer diagnosis to the offer of a clinical trial, written by physicians at a US grade 4.8 reading level. The library is free to the public at protocolandpeople.org and is available to health systems, cancer centers and patient organizations in print and in versions carrying their own contact details. Protocol & People also produces an animated series, a newsletter, and talks and workshops. Protocol & People was co-founded by Oyepeju Abioye-Akintola, MD, MSc, and Ayooluwa Akintola, PhD.

Oyepeju Abioye-Akintola, MD, MSc, is an internal medicine physician training toward thoracic medical oncology and a co-founder of Protocol & People. She is a 2026-2027 Health Equity Fellow with Health Affairs, through its Health Equity Fellowship for Trainees (HEFT), and her fellowship research measures the reading level of oncology trial consent documents. She co-wrote Cards on the Table.

Meghna Mathews, MD, is an internal medicine physician and the co-author of Cards on the Table.

Ayooluwa Akintola, PhD, is a co-founder of Protocol & People. He holds a PhD in process systems engineering, the discipline of modeling and optimizing complex systems, and is a senior associate in quantitative analytics, with more than a decade of experience across engineering and analytics. He brings expertise in data and operations to the team.
