When should I start getting mammograms?

US guidelines (from the US Preventive Services Task Force) advise a mammogram every two years for women aged 40 to 74.

Ask your doctor if you need to start earlier or have other tests. This matters if your mother, sister or daughter had breast cancer (a first-degree relative). It also matters if you had radiation to the chest.
