Should I be screened for lung cancer?
US guidelines (from the US Preventive Services Task Force) advise a low-dose CT scan every year for people aged 50 to 80 who smoked one pack a day for 20 years, or the same amount over more years.
It applies if you still smoke, or quit within the last 15 years. A CT scan takes X-ray pictures of the chest. Ask your doctor whether you qualify.
