When do I need a Pap test?

US guidelines (from the US Preventive Services Task Force) advise cervical screening from age 21 to 65. From 21 to 29: a Pap test every three years. From 30 to 65: a Pap test every three years, an HPV test every five years, or both together every five years.

HPV is a common virus that can cause cervical cancer. After 65, the guidelines advise stopping if your past tests were normal. Ask your doctor before you stop.
